Conditions for Graduate Admission
Candidates for graduate programs must also submit the following in addition to the general requirements stated to the left:
A bachelor’s degree is required to apply to University of the Potomac master’s programs: the equivalent of a four-year bachelor’s degree in another country. On the suggestion of the Admission Committee, which will be based on students’ readiness, international applicants 16 with a 3-year undergraduate degree may be admitted.
Two letters of recommendation from somebody who might be your boss or a professor at the university; this criteria may not apply to students who have transferred Master’s level coursework. There is one mandatory essay that must be submitted in MSWord document format and discuss the student’s graduate program preparedness.
The Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) is strongly recommended for applicants to the MBA program who do not already hold a bachelor’s degree in a business-related field or who do not have the necessary prerequisite courses in business, finance, and economics. In a similar vein, while not necessary for admission to the MHCA or MSIT, the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is advised.
In degree programs offered on the Coursera platform, we observe a number of factors driving student retention. Universities can take the following steps to increase their students’ likelihood of remaining in their programs: Increase success with open content suggest comparable Coursera open courses. Open course participants are 12% more likely to continue their education after completing the course. People who enroll in open courses that count toward a degree are 3% more likely to finish their studies.
Get Pupils off to A Good Start
To help students submit their first assessment successfully, offer resources, office hours, and one-on-one question assistance. This boosts their retention in the program by 6%. First-term grades emerge as particularly crucial, and performance is a powerful predictor of students’ later persistence.
Specify Staff Grading
Using professional grading and comments, increase motivation. Student retention increases by 6% when at least one evaluation is staff-graded.
Promote Continuing Education
Make sure students return frequently to the degree courses by incorporating strategies like brief movies and smaller exams throughout the course. More important than overall learning time, spreading out pupils’ learning over more days increases retention by 5%.
Create Interactive Projects
Keep pupils moving forward with practical assignments where they can use their newly acquired skills. These possibilities lead to a 3% higher retention rate for writing, coding, and creative endeavors. This kind of practical project and course-ending experience might be offered as part of the final project.
Use opportunities for practice. For low-stakes testing and to deepen pupils’ understanding, incorporate ungraded tests. A 2% improvement in student degree retention is attributed to the use of practice exams.
Leading institutions now construct their online programs and distribute them to a global audience of interested people through the Coursera platform. We may learn new things about how people interact with online for-credit courses, what supports their success, and which actions most strongly influence their retention from the activities of thousands of students enrolled in the degree programs of our university partners. In this study, we provide data-driven recommendations for improving retention in online degree programs.
Degree candidates from all over the world have access to our university partners’ amazing expertise, and we at Coursera are here to support these faculty and staff members in developing excellent online learning opportunities. Universities and students may find these quantitative insights helpful in achieving their academic objectives. Here’s a short glimpse at who is enrolling in our partner universities’ degree programs on Coursera before we examine what motivates retention.
